"Yesterday was one of those really really hard days as a mother; as a parent. Maxime appears to have jumped directly from a sweet innocent child to an angsty teen (she’s 9 years old) and we are feeling like we have no idea how to deal/cope with it and to support her through it (not just freak out and yell and dish out punishments 💔). She was in tears at the dinner table last night, and as much as I had been so frustrated by her behaviour throughout the day, I got up and gave her a huge hug and I said to her, “you know what the best part about tomorrow is?” ‘What mama?’ “ it’s a new day, which means we get to start over. It will be a better day.” ‘Are you sure?’ “Yes baby I’m sure.”⁣
I wasn’t sure, but I had a feeling.. I mean it sort of had to be (yesterday was really really hard). And I wanted her to know that all isn’t lost on a bad day. We always get another chance to wake up and try again. And sure enough, this morning the sun was beaming into the front windows off of the seaway, and we all woke up with a new, refreshed spirit and I have a feeling things will be better today. I know it will get hard again and that we haven’t seen the half of it yet, but if I think that if through all of the challenges we have to come, with all three of my girls, I never ever forget to stop when things get shitty and just hug them as hard as I can, then we may just be ok.”⁣
